Vietnam's Internet Is Fast and Cheap. Here's Why.
Vietnam's broadband hits 130.91 Mbps at under USD 12/month. Fierce telecom competition and government digital push drive the value.

If there were a competition for internet value, Vietnam would rank near the top. In 2024, Vietnam's broadband averaged 130.91 Mbps download speed, with mobile at 67.85 Mbps. And the price? Under USD 12 a month for high-speed broadband. Even relative to local incomes, that is affordable for most people.
▍ Vietnam vs. Taiwan
Taiwan's speeds are slightly faster and prices are also reasonable. But Taiwan had a roughly 10-year head start in building out its network. The fact that Vietnam has nearly caught up speaks to how seriously the country treats internet development.
▍ Competition and Infrastructure
A key driver is fierce competition among Vietnam's three telecom giants: Viettel, VNPT, and FPT Telecom. Their price war benefits users with high-value service. Vietnam's high population density also keeps fiber-optic deployment costs low, and infrastructure upgrades have pushed network coverage up steadily.
From personal experience, even in the remote mountains of Dien Bien Phu, Viettel's signal only dropped occasionally — making it hard to believe you were actually in the deep countryside.
▍ Government-Driven Digital Transformation
The Vietnamese government has made digital transformation a national priority. October 10 was designated "Digital Transformation Day" — the same date as "Capital Liberation Day" — signaling the policy's importance. The government has also pushed IPv6 adoption aggressively. Vietnam's IPv6 usage rate now ranks 7th in the world.
